David Raymer

Carton Concepts was started and is run by David Raymer, a Packaging Designer with extensive knowledge of all facets of the packaging industry and instructor of packaging CAD software and Aristo cutting machines.

Entering into the Packaging Industry in 1993, David began as a machine operator where he learnt how to set-up and operate many of the different machines used in the packaging industry including: die-cutters; guillotines; complete folder gluers; sheet laminators; flexo-graphic printers; and many others.

In 2000, he moved into the design room where he learnt to use the CAD software. After running machines and seeing how design issues affect production, he was able to use his first-hand knowledge of the processes involved to ensure that not only do the packaging designs work, but they also factor in the most economical layout for the processes to achieve the highest level of efficiency possible for production.

Wanting to learn more about other aspects of the industry, David enrolled into RMIT where he studied part-time and was awarded his Certificate IV in Electronic Publishing in 2004. By undertaking the course, David expanded his knowledge to include the essential elements required for printing, software packages for artwork creation, costing & estimating, bindery, and more.

David worked as a CAD and graphic designer for several companies including Service Containers (now Amcor's Specialty Packaging Group), KSH Cartons and was also the head designer at Carter Holt Harvey - Corrugated. Building on his design experience, in 2006 David began work at Converta Machinery installing and teaching packaging CAD design along with training and technical support for Aristo CNC Knife Cutting Machines.

With a downsize and near-closure of Converta Machinery caused by the Global Financial Crisis in 2009, David was retrenched but soon turned the situation around and Carton Concepts was registered shortly afterwards in March 2009. Initially offering free-lance design work through Carton Concepts, David also continued to assist Converta Machinery by offering technical support to the customers using the CAD software and Aristo cutting tables as required.

When the economy improved in 2011, David sub-contracted back to Converta Machinery and continued to perform installations, training, and technical support along with handle orders for spare parts.

Once again, Converta Machinery hit dire times and was forced into closure in 2012. Making the most of the situation, David contacted the suppliers and customers and entered into an agreement where he began offering the same service and support, but now directly through Carton Concepts.
